Plot summary
A young bear lives in the jungles of Peru with his aunt Lucy and uncle Pastuzo, and an explorer who once met the bears left them his hat, saying they would be welcome in London. The bear travels to the city alone, stows away on a cargo ship and ends up lost at Paddington station, where the Brown family take him in and name him after the station. Henry Brown doubts his story, while Mary, Jonathan, Judy and the housekeeper Mrs Bird find him endearing. Mary brings him to an antique dealer, Samuel Gruber, who finds the stamp of the Geographers' Guild inside the hat. At the Natural History Museum, the taxidermist Millicent Clyde learns that a rare bear is in London.

- Colin Firth was announced as the voice of Paddington, but in June 2014, after filming had wrapped, he stepped away when the studio decided his voice was not right for the bear. Ben Whishaw was signed the following month.
- Paddington speaks in the Ukrainian dub with the voice of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who went on to become the president of Ukraine.
- The BBFC's PG certificate warned parents of "mild sex references", which left Paddington's creator Michael Bond "totally amazed" and director Paul King baffled. After the distributor challenged the certification, the board swapped the wording for "innuendo".
- At 38.5 million euros, about 50 to 55 million dollars, Paddington was the most expensive film the French company StudioCanal had ever produced.
- Paddington's invented Tube stop, Westbourne Oak, was stitched together from three real London stations: the entrance hall at Maida Vale, the escalators inside St John's Wood and the disused Jubilee line platforms at Charing Cross.
- The shot that establishes Paddington station from outside is not Paddington at all: the crew used the front entrance of nearby Marylebone Station, though the scenes inside were filmed at the real London Paddington.
