Plot summary
Phil Weston has never been athletic, and his father Buck's competitive streak left its mark on him. Phil now sells vitamins, while Buck runs a chain of sporting goods stores and coaches the Gladiators, the district's best youth soccer team. Phil's son Sam sits on Buck's bench, so Buck moves him to the Tigers, the league's worst side. When the Tigers turn up for Sam's first game without a coach, Phil volunteers. He stays on, and when the team still cannot win, he recruits Buck's neighbor Mike Ditka, an old enemy of Buck who likes the idea of beating him.
