Plot summary
Sonny Wexler is a veteran Hollywood producer whose Oscar-nominated heyday is long past, and the business now belongs to a younger generation, among them the studio executive Damon Black and foreign investors. Sonny is treated as a has-been. Convinced he will soon be forgotten, he decides to stake everything on one last movie. A promising young writer's screenplay, which he has optioned, looks like his chance, until Black undercuts it and pushes Sonny aside. Sonny then has seventy-two hours to buy the script for himself. With nowhere else to turn, he goes to the mafia for the $50,000 he needs.
