Biography

Freda Jackson was an English actress who worked in theater, film and television. She began at the Northampton Repertory Theatre in 1934 in Sweet Lavender, reached London in 1936 with The Sacred Flame, and toured with Emlyn Williams in Night Must Fall before joining the Old Vic company in 1938 and the Stratford Memorial Theatre company in 1940. Her first screen role was in Mountains O'Mourne (1938), followed by A Canterbury Tale (1944), Henry V (1944) and Great Expectations (1946). She scored a stage success in 1945 as the sadistic landlady Mrs Voray in No Room at the Inn, Joan Temple's play, and later took the part in the 1948 film adaptation. Later films included The Good Die Young (1954), Bhowani Junction (1956), The Brides of Dracula (1960), Tom Jones (1963), Die, Monster, Die! (1965), Clash of the Titans (1981) and The Valley of Gwangi (1969). She died in 1990.
