Mark Burns

Biography

Mark Burns was an English actor who appeared in films and on television. Born in Bromsgrove and educated at Ampleforth College, he started his screen career in 1960 with Tunes of Glory, followed by the television series Lorna Doone and Rupert of Hentzau. He took the male lead in the 1966 mystery Death Is a Woman and guested in episodes of The Saint and The Prisoner. His film roles included William Morris in The Charge of the Light Brigade, Bernie in A Day at the Beach, Alfred, the pianist, in Death in Venice (1971), and as Hans von Bülow in Ludwig. He played the lead in House of the Living Dead (1974) and won the best actor prize at the Sitges Film Festival that year. Other credits were A Long Return, Count Dracula, and The Bitch; his final film was Stardust (2007). He died in 2007.
