Daniel Massey
Biography
Daniel Massey was an English actor and performer with a career spanning film, television, and the stage. Born in London in 1933, he began on screen as a child in Noël Coward's naval film In Which We Serve (1942). He later played Coward in Star! (1968), a performance that brought him a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor. Massey played Laurence Olivier's son-in-law in both the theater and the 1960 film adaptation of John Osborne's The Entertainer. His other film roles included parts in The Jokers and Mary, Queen of Scots, and he appeared in The Vault of Horror and Victory. On television he starred as Daniel in the BBC adaptation of Sartre's The Roads to Freedom and played Reverend Hale in The Crucible. On stage he earned an Olivier Award nomination for playing Wilhelm Furtwängler in Taking Sides, and he repeated the part on Broadway, where he received a Drama Desk Award nomination.
