Eventually Benalla Film Productions dropped out and Rupert Kathner made his own version, keeping Bob Chitty as the lead but recasting every other role.
- Descendants of Ned Kelly were vocal in their opposition to the planned 1947 film about him, but filming began in September 1947 regardless.
