Plot summary
Shep Ramsey is an interstellar warrior sent to capture General Suitor, a despot who has taken the planetary ruler President Hashina. Shep boards the flagship but fails to rescue Hashina, and Suitor, wounded, becomes a berserk reptilian creature. Shep escapes and destroys the ship. His commanding officer concludes he needs a rest and tells him to take a vacation. Annoyed, Shep damages his own control systems and crash-lands on Earth, stranded until the ship repairs itself. He knows little of Earth's customs, and his temper lands him in trouble with those he meets. Charlie Wilcox, a weak-willed architect, works for the fawning Adrian Beltz, and his wife Jenny wants him to speak up for himself. To bring in money, she rents out Charlie's hobby shed, and Shep leases it. Charlie grows uneasy about his strange guest.
