Plot summary
A deadly chemical is spilled into the ocean, and a group of aliens offers to fix the damage. They bring a package that cleans the mess and a weapon that destroys the planet, and they ask only for a glass of water, which must be handed over by CIA agent Pillbox, the one human they trust. An unseen assassin shoots Pillbox during a rehearsal for the meeting. A computer search turns up Bob Wilson, an insurance agent who resembles him. Wilson, a meek office worker, is pushed around by local bullies, and a milkman is courting his wife. Russian agents are after a map showing the meeting place. Nick Pirandello, a government agent, comes to Wilson's home to take him to the aliens. Wilson mistakes him for an intruder, and a shoot-out with the Russians wrecks the house.
