Roy Dotrice
Biography
Roy Dotrice was a British actor of stage and screen who died in 2017; he was born in Guernsey in 1923. His career began in 1945 with a revue called Back Home, and he later joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, where his parts included Caliban in The Tempest and John of Gaunt. In the one-man play Brief Lives he portrayed John Aubrey, and the many solo performances he gave earned him a Guinness World Record. In 2000 he appeared on Broadway in A Moon for the Misbegotten and won a Tony Award for that performance. His screen roles included Leopold Mozart in Amadeus (1984), Charles Dickens in Dickens of London (1976), and Father in Beauty and the Beast. He also recorded audiobooks of George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, work that brought him another Guinness World Record.
