Biography

Daisy Ridley is an English actress who came to prominence playing Rey across the Star Wars sequel trilogy. She grew up in Maida Vale and trained at a performing arts school in Hertfordshire before studying classical civilization at Birkbeck, University of London. Her early screen work took in small parts in British television series, among them Casualty and Mr Selfridge, and a debut in the horror film Scrawl. Casting her as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), the highest-grossing film of that year, gave her a lead role, and reviewers praised her performance. She played Rey again in The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019), then appeared in Murder on the Orient Express (2017), Peter Rabbit (2018), Ophelia (2019), Chaos Walking (2021), The Marsh King's Daughter (2023), Sometimes I Think About Dying (2024) and Young Woman and the Sea (2024). She also executive produced and narrated The Eagle Huntress (2016).

    Ridley's film debut came in Scrawl, a 2015 British independent horror film. Her scenes in the British comedy The Inbetweeners 2 ended up cut from the final version.

    Ridley took on the role of executive producer for The Eagle Huntress in January 2016. The documentary premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on 24 January 2016, and she also recorded narration for its wide release.

    Ridley sang the role of Bebe in "At the Ballet" from A Chorus Line on Barbra Streisand's 2016 album Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway, alongside Streisand and Anne Hathaway.

    Ridley shot the indie film Sometimes I Think About Dying in Astoria, Oregon, with Rachel Lambert directing, and she also took on the role of main producer for the first time.
