Plot summary
Farmer lives in Stonebridge, in the kingdom of Ehb, with his wife, Solana, and their son, Zeph. The villagers adopted him, and he is known by no other name. The Krug, animal-like creatures, attack the town fighting with armor, courage and intelligence rather than primitive instinct, because the magus Gallian controls them and wants to rule Ehb. Farmer fights back with Norick, his friend, and Bastian, his brother-in-law, but Zeph is killed and Solana is taken prisoner. King Konreid and Commander Tarish arrive to survey the damage and recruit men for the army. Farmer, Norick and Bastian set off to find Solana.
