Plot summary
Princess Ellian lives in Lumbria, a kingdom of magic, where a journey into the Dark Forest of Eternal Darkness left her parents, King Solon and Queen Ellsmere, turned into feral monsters. For a year the ministers Bolinar and Nazara Prone have helped her hide them, and with no cure found, the advisors want Ellian crowned when she comes of age on her fifteenth birthday. Her last hope is a meeting with two deities, the sun and moon oracles, but the royal monsters frighten the visitors away and leave behind only a device called the Fob. When the monsters break loose and the Captain of the Guards orders them out of the kingdom, Ellian turns the Fob's magic on her family and flees with them.
