Biography

Olga Merediz is an American actress and singer who created the part of Claudia in the musical In the Heights on Broadway and later played the same role in the film In the Heights (2021). Born in Guantánamo, Cuba, and raised in Puerto Rico, she made her film debut in The Brother from Another Planet (1984). Her other screen work includes Evita (1996), and she voiced Alma Madrigal's singing part in Encanto (2021). On television, she has appeared in Orange Is the New Black, Shades of Blue, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Amsterdam, and Madam Secretary, among others. Her Broadway credits also include Man of La Mancha, Les Misérables, and Mamma Mia!, while her Off-Broadway work includes The Human Comedy. She received a Tony nomination in the Best Featured Actress in a Musical category for the Broadway production of In the Heights and won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance for its off-Broadway run. She won a HOLA Tespis Award.
