Plot summary
In 1887, Lord Nelson Rathbone and his Boxers force their way into the Forbidden City, take the Imperial Seal and leave its Keeper dying. The Keeper manages to pass his daughter Chon Lin a puzzle box meant for her brother. Chon Wang, a sheriff in Carson City, Nevada, receives the box along with a letter: their father is dead, and Lin has tracked the man responsible to London. Wang rides for New York City to look up Roy O'Bannon, his former partner, and collect the gold they split to pay for the voyage. Roy has quit law enforcement, sunk the gold into investments and earns his living as a waiter and a gigolo. The two sail for England hidden in a crate, and in London they learn that Lin has been arrested for trying to kill Rathbone.
