Tina Louise
Biography
Tina Louise is an American actress whose work spans stage, film and television, best known for playing movie star Ginger Grant on the 1960s sitcom Gilligan's Island. Born in New York City, she trained in dance, singing and acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse before making her acting debut in 1952 in the revue Two's Company. Her breakthrough came with the 1958 drama God's Little Acre, which earned her a Golden Globe for new star of the year. She had leading roles in The Trap, The Hangman, and Day of the Outlaw (1959), and later appeared in The Wrecking Crew (1968) and The Stepford Wives (1975). She studied with Lee Strasberg, joined the Actors Studio, took darker parts in television movies, had a recurring role on Dallas, and released the album It's Time for Tina. Later credits include Johnny Suede (1991) and Late Phases (2014).

Louise turned down roles in the film versions of Li'l Abner and Operation Petticoat, choosing instead to take parts on Broadway and in Italian cinema.
Early training
At the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in Manhattan, Louise trained in acting, singing and dancing under Sanford Meisner, starting when she was 17.
About the name
During her senior year of high school, Louise took the name "Louise." Her drama teacher proposed it after Louise pointed out that no other girl in the class lacked a middle name.
Big break
Louise left the Broadway musical Fade Out - Fade In in 1964 to play Ginger Grant, a movie star, on the situation comedy Gilligan's Island.
Early training
After coming back to the United States, Louise started studying with Lee Strasberg and then joined the Actors Studio as a member.
