Jack Lord
Biography
Jack Lord was an American actor, director and producer who trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse under Sanford Meisner and later studied at the Actors Studio. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he made his Broadway debut in Horton Foote's The Traveling Lady in 1954, winning a Theatre World Award, and later replaced Ben Gazzara in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. His early films included Project X and God's Little Acre (1958), and he was the first actor to play Felix Leiter in the James Bond series, in Dr. No (1962). On television he starred as the rodeo cowboy Stoney Burke, then as Detective Steve McGarrett in Hawaii Five-O from 1968 to 1980, a role that made him famous and gave him control as executive producer. He died in 1998.
