Suzanne Pleshette
Biography
Suzanne Pleshette was an American actress who began on the stage and became known for work in film and television. Born in Brooklyn, she trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse before making her Broadway debut in Compulsion in 1957. She gained attention for Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963), a role that earned her a Laurel Award. She appeared in The Geisha Boy (1958), 40 Pounds of Trouble (1962), Nevada Smith (1966), If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium (1969), Support Your Local Gunfighter (1971), and Disney family films including The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin (1967), Blackbeard's Ghost (1968), and The Shaggy D.A. (1976). On television she played Emily Hartley on The Bob Newhart Show from 1972 to 1978, earning two Emmy nominations, and later starred in Leona Helmsley: The Queen of Mean (1990), which brought Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. She voiced roles in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998) and Spirited Away (2001). She died in 2008.
