Plot summary
Gilbert Wooley, a down-on-his-luck magician, is invited to perform for GIs on a USO tour in Japan. Before his flight from Los Angeles leaves, a string of accidents involving his pet rabbit Harry angers the show's headliner, actress Lola Livingston. When he tries to apologize after landing, he tears her dress, knocks her down the gangway, and rolls her into a red carpet. An orphan, Mitsuo Watanabe, attends the reception with his aunt Kimi Sikita, a USO interpreter, and sees the incident; having lost his parents, the boy laughs for the first time in a long while. Kimi brings Mitsuo to thank Gilbert, and the two become close. This irritates Kimi's boyfriend Ichiyama, and Major Ridgley nearly revokes Gilbert's permission to entertain.
