Stephen Colbert
Biography
Stephen Colbert is an American comedian, writer, producer and television host who set out to be a dramatic actor before turning to improvisational theater. A native of Washington, D.C., he grew up in South Carolina and studied at Northwestern University before joining Second City in Chicago, where he started as an understudy for Steve Carell. He went on to develop the sketch series Exit 57, write and perform on The Dana Carvey Show, and create the sitcom Strangers with Candy, reprising his role for the film Strangers with Candy (2005). He also had a small part in Bewitched (2005). After gaining wide recognition as a correspondent on The Daily Show, he hosted The Colbert Report from 2005 until 2014 as a caricature of a conservative pundit, then took over The Late Show in 2015. He has won eleven Primetime Emmy Awards along with two Grammys and three Peabody Awards.
