Robert Lowery

Biography

Robert Lowery was an American actor of film, television and stage who appeared in more than 70 movies. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he graduated from Paseo High School and sang with the Slats Randall Orchestra before making his screen debut in Come and Get It (1936). He became known for action pictures, among them The Mark of Zorro (1940), The Mummy's Ghost (1944) and Dangerous Passage (1944), and in 1949 he became the second actor to play Batman, starring in the serial Batman and Robin (1949). Westerns and crime parts followed, including The Rise and Fall of Legs Diamond (1960) and Johnny Reno (1966), and he worked in the theater in Born Yesterday and The Caine Mutiny. On television he played Big Tim Champion in the series Circus Boy from 1956 to 1957.
