Plot summary
In Egypt, the aging High Priest of Arkam, Andoheb, summons Yousef Bey to a temple and passes on the duties of the priesthood. Kharis the mummy, he says, still lives, and the mission is to bring Kharis and the body of Princess Ananka home to their resting place. A brew of nine tana leaves, made at each full moon, will draw the mummy wherever he is. In Mapleton, Massachusetts, Professor Matthew Norman teaches his history class about the priests of Arkam and their living mummy, and the students doubt the tale. He keeps a supply of tana leaves for research. Tom Hervey's girlfriend, Amina Mansori, is of Egyptian descent, and her mind clouds whenever Egypt is mentioned.
