Biography

Riz Ahmed is a British actor and rapper who trained at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama before building a film career in independent movies. Early credits include The Road to Guantanamo (2006), Four Lions (2010), Trishna (2011), and The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2013). His breakout came with Nightcrawler (2014), which led to roles in Jason Bourne (2016) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). He won a Primetime Emmy for his lead role in the HBO miniseries The Night Of (2016), then played Carlton Drake in Venom (2018). In Sound of Metal (2020) he starred as a drummer who loses his hearing, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He also co-wrote and produced Mogul Mowgli (2020), taking the lead role, and the film earned a BAFTA Award nomination for Outstanding British Film. He also performs with the hip-hop group Swet Shop Boys and released the album Cashmere. He created the BBC series Englistan.
