Plot summary
Ash works in New York City as a fixer. He arranges payoffs between companies and the people holding documents that could damage them, and he keeps his name out of it by typing his messages into a device for deaf callers that an operator relays onward. Sarah Grant, a research scientist at Cybo Sementis Research, has taken a report that she says shows the company covered up dangerous side effects of its genetically modified wheat. After the company pressures her, she no longer wants to publish it and asks to give it back. A lawyer sends her to Ash. He agrees to arrange the return and to keep a copy as his guarantee, and hands her burner phones and a passcode. Ash then spots a surveillance team tracking her.
