Did you know?!Facts and trivia about EuroTrip (2004)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The writers tried to move the project to New Line Cinema after DreamWorks founder Steven Spielberg, one of the museum's biggest donors, objected to a scene in which Cooper mistook the Anne Frank House for a brothel. New Line balked too, so the Amsterdam scene was replaced with one involving a dominatrix.
- Although three men directed the film together, the Directors Guild of America forbade the trio from sharing the credit. Schaffer earned sole directing credit only when a production assistant picked his name out of a hat.
- Matt Damon was filming The Brothers Grimm in Prague and agreed to play the punk singer here because it let him shave his head for the wig he wore in Grimm.
- DreamWorks executives, frustrated at the content in post-production, changed the title from Ugly Americans to EuroTrip to lure in fans of Road Trip, which ironically drew backlash from that film's director, Todd Phillips.
SPOILER
The Vatican sequence originally had Mieke not caring about Scott's efforts to meet her, subverting the typical romantic comedy conclusion. Test audiences reacted negatively, so during reshoots the directors replaced it with the scene of the two in a confessional booth.- Lucy Lawless used a fake European accent for her role, although she can be heard in her normal accent during the end credits blooper reel, and the costume she wore was later auctioned to charity in 2004.
