Neil Maskell
Biography
Neil Maskell is an English performer who acts, writes and directs, best known from British crime and horror movies and from the television series Utopia, where he played Arby. He grew up in London, born there in 1976, and began acting classes at the Anna Scher Theatre in Islington at 11, later studying at the Miskin Theatre in Dartford. His first film part came in Gary Oldman's Nil by Mouth (1997), which earned a Palme d'Or nomination at Cannes. Crime and horror roles followed, including The Football Factory (2004), Rise of the Footsoldier (2007) and Doghouse (2009). Critics praised his lead turn in the thriller Kill List (2011), which brought Best Actor nominations, among them at the British Independent Film Awards. He also appeared in Wild Bill (2011) and starred in Bull (2021). On television he began with The Bill in 1991 and was later a regular in Humans, with roles in Peaky Blinders and Litvinenko.

Early training
Maskell studied at the Miskin Theatre in Dartford, at North West Kent College, starting in 1992. He went on to serve as a director at that same Miskin Theatre.
First role
Maskell began his film career in 1997, appearing as Schmuddie in Nil by Mouth, Gary Oldman's directorial debut. The film was nominated for a Palme d'Or at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.
