Plot summary
Catherine Tramell, a crime novelist, drives through London with Kevin Franks, a famous English football star, using the hand of the semi-conscious Franks to touch herself as she accelerates. The car leaves the road and goes into the water at the West India Docks. Tramell gets out; Franks drowns. Scotland Yard Detective Superintendent Roy Washburn questions her, and D-tubocurarine, a muscle relaxant, is found in her car and in Franks's body. The autopsy shows Franks was not breathing when the car hit the water. A dealer says he sold her the drug; she calls him a liar with no evidence. Dr. Michael Glass, who examined her for the court and testified in her case, begins therapy sessions with her and finds himself intrigued, though his new relationship is with Michelle, another psychiatrist.

- Sharon Stone sued producers Andrew G. Vajna and Mario Kassar after MGM dropped the sequel, claiming she was guaranteed at least $14 million even if the film was never made, plus up to 15 percent of gross receipts if it was released.
- At the 27th Golden Raspberry Awards, the film won four Razzies, including Worst Picture and Worst Actress for Sharon Stone, at a ceremony that mocked it as "Basically, It Stinks, Too".
- Robert Downey Jr. turned down the part of psychiatrist Dr. Michael Glass, and Aaron Eckhart was also considered to star opposite Sharon Stone.
