Larry Hankin
Biography
Larry Hankin is an American character actor who came out of the improvisational theater world, training with Viola Spolin and Paul Sills as an early member of Second City and helping to found the troupe The Committee in San Francisco in 1963. Born in New York City and raised in Queens, he took his first notable supporting part as Pt. Romero in Viva Max! in 1969. He went on to play Charley Butts opposite Clint Eastwood in Escape from Alcatraz (1979), Carl Alphonse in Billy Madison (1995) and Ace in Running Scared (1986), with smaller turns in Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) and Home Alone (1990). On television he was Mr. Heckles on Friends and junkyard owner Old Joe on Breaking Bad, a part he reprised in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019). His short film Solly's Diner brought an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film.
