Kim Hunter
Biography
Kim Hunter was an American actress whose career spanned stage, screen, and television. Born in Detroit, she made her film debut in The Seventh Victim (1943) and took her first starring role opposite David Niven in A Matter of Life and Death (1946). In 1947 she played Stella Kowalski in the original Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire, then won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for the 1951 film version. Hunter later appeared in Rod Serling's Playhouse 90 telecast Requiem for a Heavyweight. She played the chimpanzee scientist Zira in Planet of the Apes, then returned for the sequel Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) and later appeared in Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971). Her television work on The Edge of Night earned a Daytime Emmy nomination, and her final major film was Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997).
