Plot summary
Jack Cardiff spent seventy years behind a camera and became a master of the Technicolor process, the format he used on Black Narcissus, the film that brought him an Academy Award. In 2001 he became the first cinematographer to receive an honorary Oscar. His own account of his working life is set beside recollections from fellow filmmakers who knew him and his films. Cardiff also describes photographing some of Hollywood's biggest stars, among them Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart and Sophia Loren. The documentary was completed about a year after his death and screened at the Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Classics section.
