Plot summary
Ronald Wilby is a socially inept high school youth with artistic talent and a love of fantasy. His mother, Elaine, is overprotective and wants him to become a doctor. He asks out Laurie Matthews, and she rejects him. On the way home he knocks over Laurie's younger sister Carol and pushes her, killing her by accident. He buries her body and tells his mother. Fearing the police will not accept that it was accidental, Elaine seals a small back room with wallboard and wallpaper and makes it living quarters.
