Plot summary
A doctor in a New England town has been killed, and his young nephew was convicted of the crime. Angela Crispini, a seductive and possibly unstable woman, wants Tom O'Toole, a private investigator, to examine the case. She tells him the young man is innocent and that the town's residents know who really did it. O'Toole shares a house with his sister, Connie, who believes Crispini is exploiting him. His dislike of Charley Haggerty, the district attorney, drives him to keep at the inquiry.
