Plot summary
When Dolores Preciado dies, her son Juan Preciado travels to Comala to claim his inheritance from his father, the landowner Pedro Páramo. The journey crosses the violence and upheaval of the Mexican Revolution, and the town he reaches stands abandoned. No familiar faces wait for him there, only empty rooms and the voices and whispers that come from people he cannot see. The narrative also turns to the father's own side of the story, to his life in Comala, his land and his habits, so that the two lives run side by side through the revolutionary years of the early 1900s.
