John Ashley
Biography
John Ashley was an American actor, producer and singer who broke into films through American International Pictures. He played the villain in Dragstrip Girl and became known for juvenile delinquent roles and beach party movies, among them Beach Party (1963), Muscle Beach Party (1964), Bikini Beach (1964), and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965). He also appeared in Zero Hour! (1957), Frankenstein's Daughter (1958), How to Make a Monster (1958), High School Caesar (1960), Hud (1963), and Young Dillinger (1965). Later he worked in the Philippines as an actor and producer on horror films such as Brides of Blood (1968), Mad Doctor of Blood Island (1969), Beast of Blood (1970), The Beast of the Yellow Night (1971), The Twilight People (1972), and Beyond Atlantis (1973). He went on to produce television series, notably The A-Team. He died in 1997.

First role
Castle was producing the TV anthology Men of Annapolis and needed an actor for a wrestling role. Ashley's wrestling background landed him the part, and he appeared in two episodes.
Beyond film
Ashley recorded a 1959 single, The Net and The Hangman, that was an early collaboration between songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
A role that slipped away
Ashley had earlier declined a part in Back to the Beach, a 1987 beach party parody. He came back to acting for a small role in Invisible Mom in 1996, which his friend Fred Olen Ray directed.
Behind the camera
After Beast of Blood was finished, Romero proposed that he and Ashley put up the money for their own films. The company they started, Four Associates Ltd, put out Beast of the Yellow Night in 1971 as its first release.

Ashley was one of three supervising producers on The A-Team, a hit that ran for 98 episodes. He also narrated the show's opening title sequence for its first four seasons.
