Henry Wills

Biography

Henry Wills was an American stunt performer and coordinator who grew up on an Arizona cattle ranch and moved to Hollywood after finishing high school. He began as an extra, mostly in westerns, and gradually turned to stunt work, earning a reputation as one of the industry's best horsemen. His specialty was the horse fall, which he was said to have executed more than 1,400 times; he also handled moves that involved leaping from a horse to a wagon or stagecoach and bulldogging, in which he jumped from his own mount to force another rider down. His first credit as a full stunt coordinator came with The Magnificent Seven (1960), and on Major Dundee (1965) he took on second-unit directing. He contributed to many major television westerns and was the stunt coordinator and directed second unit for The High Chaparral (1967). He died in 1994.
