Plot summary
Ben Lane is in the desert breaking a horse he takes for a stray when ranchers ride up and accuse him of horse theft. They have a rope ready for him until Frank Jesse appears and stops them. Lane and Jesse continue on to Perdido, and there two gunmen ambush them; the gunmen are killed. Kelly comes to the two men with an offer: a thousand dollars apiece if they see her safely through Apache country to her husband, who is waiting for her. She has an ulterior motive for the journey. Lane also takes in a collie that accompanies him everywhere, riding the pack horse.
