Plot summary
Chris Foster and Bert Pickett ride into town to cash their paychecks, and a drunk Bert picks a fight that pulls Chris in with him. The two men are put in iron collars and chained to a killer named LaValle. They break away with LaValle's gang, still in the collars, and Bert picks up negotiable bonds along the way, meaning to cash them once he and Chris are clear of the others. LaValle learns that Bert is carrying the bonds and that nobody in the gang can cash them. He keeps Chris and sends Bert into the nearest town to turn the bonds into money and bring it back, or Chris will be killed. The twelve thousand dollars he is sent for are stolen bonds, and they are to come from his partner's ex-girlfriend.
