Plot summary
Rancher Cole Hillman wants to clear the rabbits from his Arizona land without using cyanide. College president Elgin Clark asks the researchers Roy and Gerry Bennett to help. Roy proposes hormones to interrupt the rabbits' breeding. He takes some of the animals to study and injects one with a serum meant to cause birth defects. Their daughter Amanda prefers that rabbit, so she exchanges it for one from the control group and keeps it as a pet. The animal gets out.

- Originally titled Rabbits, the film was renamed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which kept rabbits out of most promotional materials to try to keep the mutant creatures a secret, only to break the secret itself with rabbit's foot-themed promotional materials before release.
