Henry Jaglom
Biography
Henry Jaglom was an American actor, director and playwright who worked in New York theater before turning to writing and directing films. Born in London and raised in Manhattan, he studied at the Actors Studio with Lee Strasberg, where he performed, wrote and directed off-Broadway before heading to Hollywood. Signed to Columbia Pictures, he took television roles in Gidget and The Flying Nun and appeared in Psych-Out (1968), Drive, He Said (1971), The Last Movie (1971) and Orson Welles's The Other Side of the Wind (2018). His writing and directing debut was A Safe Place (1971), followed by Tracks (1976), Sitting Ducks (1980) and Can She Bake a Cherry Pie? (1983). Later features included Eating (1990), Babyfever (1995), Last Summer in the Hamptons (1995), Déjà Vu (1997), Festival in Cannes (2002), Hollywood Dreams (2007) and Just 45 Minutes from Broadway (2012). He wrote plays as well, and his taped lunch conversations with Welles were published as a book.

A change of course
Jaglom's move from acting to making films was largely influenced by watching Federico Fellini's 8½, which he said changed his identity and made him realize he wanted to make films about his own life.
First role
Jaglom started out in film by editing Hopper's Easy Rider alongside Jack Nicholson. He then wrote and directed his first movie, A Safe Place, which featured Tuesday Weld, Nicholson and Welles.
