Plot summary

Orson Welles, who lived from 1915 to 1985, is remembered through his achievements in the theater, on radio and in film. He also worked as a magician, drawn to new tricks that could surprise an audience. The account moves through his life in order, from a childhood as a gifted musician and painter to a career as a director and performer. Excerpts from nearly all of his films appear, alongside archival footage and audio. Interviews bring in colleagues and friends, biographers and critics, and directors of later generations who describe the influence he had on their work. The documentary was made around the hundredth anniversary of his birth and was presented first at festivals.
