Plot summary
Between the late sixties and the early eighties, American studios handed unusual freedom to a group of young film makers, and the pictures that came out of it changed what mainstream cinema looked like. This documentary tracks that stretch from the inside.
Told largely by the people who were there, it covers the work and the appetites that came with it, the experiment and ambition alongside the sex, drugs and rock and roll, and the envy, betrayal and self destruction that closed the era out. Roger Corman, Peter Bogdanovich, Ellen Burstyn, Peter Fonda, Richard Dreyfuss, Karen Black and Dede Allen are among those talking.
Kenneth Bowser directed and wrote the film with Peter Biskind, for the British Broadcasting Corporation, Cactus Three and The Fremantle Corporation. William H. Macy narrates. It runs 119 minutes and is rated TV-14.
