Susan Strasberg
Biography
Susan Strasberg was an American actress who worked in theater, film, and television. Born in New York City to theater director and drama coach Lee Strasberg and former actress Paula Strasberg, she began performing off-Broadway at 14 and made her television debut that same year. At 18 she originated Anne Frank on Broadway in The Diary of Anne Frank, earning a Tony nomination, and in 1955 both Life and Newsweek put her on their covers. Her first film was The Cobweb (1955), and she drew praise for Picnic (1955). She led Stage Struck (1958) and, after settling in Italy, starred in Kapo (1960), which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, and in the Hammer release Taste of Fear (1961). Returning to Broadway in The Lady of the Camellias (1963), she concentrated afterward on television and wrote best-selling books. Her later screen work included Bloody Birthday (1981) and Sweet Sixteen (1983).

First role
At 14, Strasberg was in the off-Broadway production Maya in 1953, which ran seven performances. That same year she made her TV debut in Catch a Falling Star, a Goodyear Playhouse episode directed by Delbert Mann.

In 1976, Strasberg acted in The Stronger, a short film that Lee Grant directed. The movie was adapted from an August Strindberg play, and Strasberg said it brought back her love of acting.
