Gary Farmer

Biography

Gary Farmer is a Canadian actor and musician of Cayuga First Nations heritage. Born in Ohsweken, Ontario, and raised in Buffalo, he began acting in a 1976 stage production, On the Rim of a Curse, and took a major television role on the CBC series Spirit Bay. He later played Joe Stonetree in Forever Knight and Chief Tom in The Rez. His best-known film part is Nobody, the spiritual guide in Dead Man (1995), which he briefly reprised in Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. He earned Independent Spirit Award nominations for Powwow Highway (1989), Dead Man, and Smoke Signals (1998). Other screen credits include The Score (2001), Dreamkeeper (2003), Jimmy P. (2013), First Cow (2020), and The Dark Divide (2020), plus the series Reservation Dogs and Resident Alien. He is the founding director of Aboriginal Voices Radio Network and leads the blues band Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers.
