Plot summary
Aram Fingal programs for Novicorp, a conglomerate whose central computer, the HX368, controls everything from finances to the weather. Caught watching Casablanca on the job, he is ordered into mandatory prophylactic rehabilitation, which doppels employees into wild animals so they can relax. Aram goes into a baboon, monitored by a controller named Apollonia James, until an elephant frightens him and he triggers an escape clause. The routing tag on his body was misplaced, so nobody can locate his body and his mind is stored in the HX368, which can maintain it only for a limited time. His disappearance crashes Novicorp's share price, and Apollonia is assigned to find his mind and keep him from hacking the mainframe. With her help he builds a private world inside the computer, peopled with figures from Casablanca.
