Plot summary
Shane Chasing Horse is a young Lakota on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota. He owes money to a local gang, and the debt came from a ring he bought for Mae Little Wounded. His mother wants the old man driven down to the All Nations powwow in Albuquerque, and Shane refuses until the gang comes after him. Pete, his grandfather, is a storyteller, and he promises Shane his truck once they arrive. On the road the old man tells the legends: Eagle Boy on a vision quest, a young man courting Blue Bird Woman, a thunder spirit who loves a Mohawk woman, and the trickster figures Coyote and Iktome.
