Plot summary
The Gypsy Moths are three skydivers who travel the country putting on stunt shows: Mike Rettig, the veteran who takes the biggest risks; Joe Browdy, the showman and business manager; and Malcolm Webson, the young newcomer. Their Fourth of July stop is a small Kansas town, and for Malcolm it is home: he was born and raised there, and left at ten after his parents died. His aunt Elizabeth Brandon and her husband John, who did not take him in, invite the three to stay at their house, where a college student named Annie Burke rents a room. Mike takes up with Elizabeth, whose marriage is coming apart, Malcolm is drawn to Annie, and Joe has his eye on a dancer he meets in town.
