Biography

Dorian Harewood is an American actor who began in musical theater and has appeared in more than 100 film and television productions. Born in Dayton, Ohio, and trained at the University of Cincinnati's conservatory, he performed on Broadway in Two Gentlemen of Verona, Streamers, and The Mighty Gents, and won a Theatre World Award for Don't Call Back. He is known for playing Jesse Owens in The Jesse Owens Story (1984) and police psychologist Paul Strobber on Strike Force, and he appeared in films such as Gray Lady Down (1978), Against All Odds (1984), Tank (1984), The Falcon and the Snowman (1985), Full Metal Jacket (1987), Solar Crisis (1990), Levity (2003), and Gothika (2003). His television work includes Roots: The Next Generations, I'll Fly Away, for which he won an NAACP Image Award, and 7th Heaven. He also works as a voice actor.

While performing in a stage production with Bette Davis, Harewood was encouraged by her to pursue dramatic roles, and he credits her as his mentor.
