Plot summary
An experimental American weapon detonated off the eastern coast of Tasmania destroys Hobart, and survivors caught outside the blast are left brain dead. Some of them regain motor function and become undead, a few of them violent. Ava Newman, an American physiotherapist, had a husband, Mitch, staying in Woodbridge on a business trip. She volunteers for an Australian military operation that retrieves and disposes of the island's dead, alerting soldiers whenever one wakes. Her assignment is the north of the island, far from Woodbridge. Paired with Clay, another volunteer, she finds a motorcycle in a garage, and the two agree to leave their unit and ride across Tasmania toward Mitch.
