Plot summary
In the year 2257, the men of New World live with the Noise, a condition that puts their thoughts where anyone nearby can see and hear them. Todd Hewitt's home is Prentisstown, where two adoptive fathers, Ben Moore and Cillian Boyd, raised him. A scout ship crashes on the planet after a colony vessel loses contact with the First Colony. Todd finds Viola, the only survivor, and is startled, since he has never seen a girl. The men of Prentisstown take her to the mayor, who questions her.

- Several weeks of reshoots were ordered after poor test screenings, but Daisy Ridley's commitment to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Tom Holland's to Spider-Man: Far From Home delayed them to April 2019, when Fede Álvarez directed them in Atlanta, adding $15 million and bringing the total cost to $100 million.
- In 2012, Lionsgate hired Charlie Kaufman to write the first draft of the screenplay; he subsequently left, a fact he himself confirmed during a Q&A panel at the 2016 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
- Deadline Hollywood wrote that Chaos Walking was "poised to lose money" for Lionsgate, and that the studio "has already written off the pic's loss".
- Deadline reported in 2013 that Robert Zemeckis was being considered as director of Chaos Walking, but this did not eventuate.
