Cobie Smulders
Biography
Cobie Smulders is a Canadian actress who started with television guest roles in 2002 and made her film debut in Walking Tall in 2004. Her breakout came as Robin Scherbatsky in the CBS series How I Met Your Mother, which ran from 2005 to 2014 and brought a People's Choice Award nomination. She gained further recognition as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in Marvel films such as The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019). Her other credits include Safe Haven (2013), Results (2015), The Intervention (2016), Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016), and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019). On television she starred in Friends from College and Stumptown. She made her off-Broadway debut in 2010 and received a Theater World Award for Present Laughter in 2017.

Getting ready for a role
To portray S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with the 2012 film The Avengers, Smulders got gun handling lessons from a trainer who worked with a Los Angeles SWAT team.
A first
In the 2014 animated film The Lego Movie, Smulders provided the voice for a Lego version of Wonder Woman. That marked the character's first appearance in a theatrical film.
